Product Updates for January

Please note that some of these features are being enabled gradually.

Updates:

Avanan:

Password Login Must Include Multi-Factor Authentication

  • Users logging into Avanan portals or the Avanan MSP portal with only a username and password are mandated to enable MFA

A New Smart Banner for Requests for Online Digital Signature

  • A new configurable banner for emails containing restricted links to sign document digitally.
  • Smart Banners are customizable banners added to emails that are not considered malicious, to make users aware of suspicious elements in their emails, as well as to educate them on company procedures.
  • Avanan now blocks most of these attacks using its advanced AI.
  • As an added security measure, we now introduce a new Smart Banner that detects these types of requests and alerts the user that the link cannot be inspected.
  • You can see the banner, enable and customize it under User Interaction > Smart Banners
  • This banner is automatically activated for customers that opted to enable newly introduced Smart Banners.

  • If you wish to enable all future Smart Banners in your portal, go to User Interaction > Smart Banners > Settings and check the Automatically enable newly introduced banners box.

Quarantine Settings - Re-Organize

  • Avanan have re-ordered things in the Quarantine Settings page to improve usability
  • The page will now include 5 sections:
  • 1. End User Permissions – What users can see and do on emails quarantined by Microsoft and how they will need to authenticate to perform restore-related actions
  • 2. Override Microsoft Enforcement – Which emails you wish to automatically restore from the Microsoft quarantine or redirect from the Junk folder to the inbox
  • 3. End User Portal – Permitted authentication methods and end-user allowance to display images
  • 4. End User Quarantine Report (Digest) – Scheduling, sender and recipients and what content the digest should include
  • 5. Reviewing Restore Requests – Automated workflows to handle restore requests and configuring end user notification settings

Automatic Restore of Microsoft False Positives - All Verdicts

  • Avanan can automatically restore all emails falsely quarantined by Microsoft.
  • Previously you could only automatically release emails that were falsely quarantined by Microsoft as High-Confidence Phishing.
  • Avanan now allows to automatically restore emails falsely quarantined by Microsoft, regardless of the reason for which Microsoft quarantined them.
  • To do that, go to Security Settings > User Interaction > Quarantine > Overriding Microsoft Enforcement and check the Override Microsoft… box.
  • You can also click on the Customize link to select which Microsoft verdicts you wish to re-evaluate and auto-restore.
  • Please Note: Emails block-listed by a Microsoft admin in Microsoft will not be automatically restored.

End User Portal - Manage Trusted Senders

  • End users can now manage their list of trusted senders in the end user portal.
  • The Avanan end user portal allows users to browse through and preview their quarantined emails.
  • They can then take actions on the quarantined emails – restore, request restore and trust the sender.

End User Quarantine Restore Requests Handling – Automated

  • Easily set workflows to automatically respond and remediate end user requests to restore emails from quarantine.
  • How it works:
    • Every time a user requests to restore an email from quarantine, Avanan re-evaluates the email, using updated reputation, updated security engines and with the restore request as an additional indicator for the AI.
    • The result is a re-evaluated verdict – clean, phishing, or inconclusive.
    • For each re-evaluated verdict, administrators can now configure a workflow – keep the email in quarantine or restore it to the user’s mailbox – as well as define customizable notifications for both admins and end users.
  • To do that, go to Security Settings > User Interaction > Quarantine > Reviewing Restore Requests, select one of the preset automation levels and – if needed – customize the workflows and notifications.
